Painting + Drawing

Wildfire Summer

A series influenced by photographic silkscreening, the grain of film photography, and the abstracted depth and colours inspired the devastating wildfire summer that may have initiated the phrase ‘Wildfire Season’ in BC. ⁣

Swimmers

In Joanne’s series of Swimmers, the figure and her love of water intersect. She’s fascinated with the body in water – suspended, moving, reflected, fragmented by distortions – and in capturing water itself, with its range of colours and depths, the nature of its surface and light passing through, and the sensory experience of swimming and being in water.

Venus Rising

14 artists from our Life Drawing Group, ‘Simply Drawing’, participated in this Group Exhibition. Sketching from live models, we examined and reinterpreted Botticelli's infamous Birth of Venus (or Venus Rising) c. 1480.

Figures

Joanne’s artwork is mainly figurative, and drawing is the foundation of her practice. Her life drawings often become studies, inspiring new works and explorations in other media.

Life Drawing

Joanne loves to draw, especially life drawing, with the practice and challenge of drawing the figure.
